“O Sombrinha” (The Little Shadow), within the project “O Sombra em Casa 2020” (The Shadow at Home), is the title character of a sequence of videos produced for children, made with improvised scenes which mix visual and sound effects, 3D animation, shadow theater, performance, object manipulation and lots of improvisation; it originated from the previous version, “O Sombra” (The Shadow), mainly exploring dance and corporal expression, directed to the adult public. In both the author explores a predominantly visual language, considering the soundtrack a fundamental element for the narrative, dynamics and punctuation of the scenes.
This is yet another project by the multimedia artist Alexandre Pring. The idea came about at random or by necessity due to the pandemic, which ended up serving as an antidote against boredom and also as a way to keep his creativity in practice during the quarantine. With a vídeo-camera in hand Alexandre began recording his own shadow projected by the sun on the walls at home, improvising body movements, relying on some homemade resources, such as objects that could be manipulated to project sharp images, in addition to materials from previous works and everything at hand. However, while editing the videos, the author came up with the idea of sharing these experiences as entertainment for friends and the general public on the social networks since they are impregnated with sad and stressful news.

Is it difficult to amuse human beings at the present moment? Yes, but it is not impossible, because there will always be those who identify themselves with art and need it to survive in this moment of crisis. Therefore the purpose of the project “O Sombra em Casa 2020”, in addition to animating, elevating, transporting the viewer to other tunings and vibrations, to other worlds, also aims to open yet another window for discussions about the importance of artistic creation and the role of art as an instrument of change in human life, not only during the pandemic to serve as an escape route, but also for life. The question is: - Could you live without art?
